The R1200GSA of the 2017 model line fell into the hands of KB. What kind of "zver" is and does it make sense to consider it? Report below!
This is not the first time I have a thought about GSA. The first time the impressions were not the best, but a) I hadn't driven many Adventure cars before and b) I had practically never driven a BMW before, and c) it was not a water-cooled option (and this, by the way, "Two big differences").
This time, inspired by the positive ecstasy from the Honda CRL1000F Africa Twin, I decided to compare it with a “horse from the Bavarian stable” in order to understand what I prefer.
As usual, the weather was "not very chic" - wind and rain, but, firstly, not for the first time, and secondly - quite “summer Dutch weather”. With this thought, I set off towards Apeldoorn.
On the spot, I quickly received the key, although there was still enough time before the test drive. When I hinted that it was not my time yet, I was told "well, then you will have more of it." Ha! It would always be like this!
So, the red R1200GSA, however, without the "body kit" in the form of trunks, but not the point. Judging by the further impression he is completely purple what to hang on him - rushing like a tank. But I'm getting ahead of myself. They explained to me the menu system where and how to play with the settings, set the "rain" mode to begin with and wished me luck with the words "just don't forget to give the key." Considering that you don't need to insert the key anywhere, but just keep it in your pocket (preferably with a zipper) - this advice makes sense. The only question I have left after all the explanations is “where is it better to ride here, my own?”. As it turned out, the representative turned out to be "not local", but somehow showed the way on his fingers. I still missed all the turns, but, at least ideologically, I was driving in the right direction.
We press the start button and the "zver" comes to life. Unlike previous models, no squeezing of the clutch and other "tambourines". Only so that he does not stand in the transfer. We carefully taxi out of the parking lot (just not to drop it ...) and here is the road.
A few words about the appearance. It is clear that tastes differ. I myself got used to the appearance of the GS series for a long time and only after 10 ownership of motorcycles began to "delve into the topic." GSA adds a more "formidable" look with a large gas tank, plastic "air intakes" on the tank (which, incidentally, play in the grooves - "shame and s 2017 BMW GS 1200 hame"), the presence of spoked wheels and "cross" footpegs (on which, we must pay tribute, vibration not felt!).
I did not feel any particular shock from the transfer to the SUV. There was even a slight disappointment, as I was expecting a "tank" in front of me, and in the end it felt like there was only a "slightly thick" motorcycle in front at the bottom (due to the huge tank), but nothing particularly outstanding. Probably, the size of the tidy and the visor smooth out the impression. Well, okay.
The seat is quite rigid (as it should be, apparently, "adventure"), while it is quite spacious, with a certain freedom of movement "on a ride" on a long journey.
Here's what was immediately felt - it's a more comfortable position for the legs - on RT you have to bend your legs, and as a result, the position below the waist is "locked", even with the seat raised. On the R1200GS (A) with 890/910 mm seat, which I got, the feeling of a "half-standing" stance, in which the legs feel quite free. In general, I liked it, although after me the young lady tried on a little shorter in height, then even at the lowered model she looked with great doubt. Many Dutch owners of GS cite the size of the "Bavarian" as the reason for the choice (apart from brand, etc.), which allows it to comfortably fit on it with "normal height".
The engine made me "think" a little even on "strangled" rain installations. Opening the throttle handle leads to quite noticeable accelerations. At the same time, "cardanism" and "panting" in low gears is not felt at all! Several times I tried to "play" the throttle, unable to believe my first sensations. With a decrease in speed, the engine quietly spins from 1.5 thousand, although the old "air vent" at the same time begins to choke, "gurgle" dissatisfied and in every possible way let the driver understand that it would be time to have a conscience.
